Are You Exhausted?

September 15, 2021

Sleep has been a fickle friend my whole life.

As the youngest of four children, I had a much earlier bedtime than my three older siblings,  so I was not keen on going to bed early and potentially missing out on the ‘action.’

The truth is that trying to fall asleep at night was an open invitation for my overthinking brain to go into hyperdrive.

If I had the smallest thing on my mind, I turned into a full-blown drama inside my head.

Falling asleep was my nightmare. (Sorry for the bad pun.)
Staying asleep was not an issue.

When I had children of my own, Karma showed up at my doorstep. It turned out that all three of my kids hated bedtime almost as much as I did.

Not to mention, once I started having children, I found myself up in the middle of the night for a variety of reasons: Feedings, diaper changes, teething, nightmares, monsters in the closets, etc. So, once again, a good night’s sleep was an elusive thing.

But after my children learned how to fall asleep and stay asleep, I found other challenges in regards to getting a good night’s rest. Things like a stressful career, changing hormones, and diet were all culprits.

Eventually, I learned how good sleep hygiene and healthy eating habits go hand-in-hand with ensuring a good night’s rest.

If you are having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or keeping your energy consistent during the day, your sleeping and eating habits might be playing a big role in this.

If you would like to learn tips on how to maximize your energy, you can listen to the latest episode of my podcast The OverThinkers Guide to Joy by clicking here or on Apple or Spotify podcasts.

Wishing you a Happy Wednesday and a good night’s sleep tonight!
