I have been in a bit of a funk this week.
It all started when I overdid it this weekend on the tennis court, and now my knee is really paying for it.
The swelling in my knee makes it very hard to sit at my desk, and I cannot go out and play my favorite sports. Additionally, I am not sleeping well, so I have been cranky AF.
Yesterday I took a walk, which thankfully did not hurt, and I listened to a podcast about Radical Acceptance.
I know that sounds so woo-woo, but bear with me.
Radical Acceptance is simply not resisting “what is.”
The “what is” might be physical, emotional, or circumstantial.
-It might be not feeling well.
-Not getting the new job you wanted.
-Not finding a romantic partner.
-Being stressed about finances.
Or it might be the little irritations of life like:
-Being cut off on the highway.
-Your friend not texting you back.
-Waiting in long lines.
-Getting an unexpected tax bill.
But rather than meeting the “circumstance du jour” with resistance or irritation, what if you could replace it with acceptance? Something like:
“It’s going to be okay.”
“Something better is coming.”
“That wasn’t meant for me.”
“I have gotten through this before.”
When we stop resisting “what is” and practice acceptance, we free ourselves up to find alternative solutions.
Scientific studies show that acceptance can lead to faster healing and the creation of more opportunities elsewhere.
Acceptance is not giving up or giving in.
Acceptance is a way to take your power back.
Acceptance and resistance are both muscles, but oftentimes, our resistance muscle is more developed.
So we need to build up our acceptance muscle.
You can start building that muscle today by simply telling yourself…
YOU GOT THIS!
And you do! Happy Wednesday!
