Did you know August 15th is National Relaxation Day?
The article I read said it was simply a reminder to slow down and take care of yourself. Recommendations for relaxation are:
- Breathing exercises or meditation
- Journaling or reading
- Yoga or Pilates
- Spending time in nature
- Minimizing screen time
- Reducing caffeine
- Quality time with loved ones
- Aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, or massage
This is a GREAT list, but I have only one question: Why would we only do these things once a year?
This list needs to be incorporated into our lives daily. (Okay, daily massages might be a stretch for most budgets — but everything else? Absolutely, doable.)
This is living with intention or mindfulness. It’s about making space for yourself even when life feels full — whether you’re managing a big career, a busy family, or endless to-do lists.
August 15th may be the gentle nudge you need to start. Or the reminder to keep going. Because, as the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
Speaking of self-care, my latest episode of The Overthinker’s Guide to Joyfeatures an interview with a small business owner, Jodi Scott, who creates her own line of natural wellness products called Green Goo. We talk about everything from natural first aid remedies to skincare, and her journey is incredible — starting from scratch, facing setbacks, and rebuilding with even more purpose. It’s inspiring, and I think you’ll love it.
