Do you go to great lengths to avoid confrontation?
Are you always going out of your way for OTHER people?
Do you constantly worry about what OTHER people think?
Do you always try and make OTHERS happy before taking care of YOURSELF?
If the answer is YES to any of these questions, then chances are likely that you are a People Pleaser.
It’s exhausting, isn’t it? I know because I was a lifelong member of the People Pleasing club too.
The good news is that you can break this habit by making a few small changes.
One simple practice is taking a pause before saying YES to something that requires your attention or effort. It might be something as simple as saying, “Let me get back to you on this.”
Another practice is learning to simply say NO. Remember NO is a complete sentence. (This is especially hard for People Pleasers.)
If you are tired of always putting others first, worrying about what other people think, and putting yourself last, I invite you to listen to this week’s podcast episode here.
And remember…
“You can please SOME of the people ALL of the time.
You can please ALL of the people SOME of the time,
But you can’t please ALL of the people ALL of the time.”
-John Lydgate
(Although Abraham Lincoln often gets the credit)
Happy Wednesday!
