You are listening to the Overthinkers Guide to Joy, episode 107. This is the one
where I'm going to tell you my big news. Let's dive in. This is a podcast for
overthinkers, overdoers and overachievers who are tired of feeling over anxious and
just want to feel better. I'm your host certified life coach, Jackie de Crinis.
Hey friends, welcome back.
So today's kind of exciting. In fact, it's not kind of exciting. It's super exciting
because today is my book launch day or my publish day or my birthday in my book.
I don't know what it's called. But today is the day that my first book has been
released. And like this podcast, it shares a similar title.
It is called The Overthinker's Guide to Joy, a handbook for overachievers, people
pleasers, and perfectionists. And it's written by me. For those of you who listen to
the podcast or follow my newsletter, you know that I've been teasing this for a few
weeks or months now. This is like a huge deal for me. I have wanted to write a
book, maybe for my whole life. I wasn't sure what kind of book I wanted to write,
but I always knew that it was going to be something in the self -help genre. And
I've dragged my feet for years, and I've made all kinds of excuses,
and it's why I started with a blog and then moved on to a podcast, and then
finally made it the goal of 2024 to start, to write,
to finish, and to publish a book. And so that's what I've done. And today is the
day. Which means today's also the day that you can buy it.
And I will link that in the show notes. You can download it as an e -book if you
have a Kindle. You can listen to it if you have Audible or some other kind of
audiobook device on your phone or on your iPad.
So there it is, it's happening. And I'll probably be talking about this for a few
weeks off and on, and so you'll excuse me for the shameless promotion, but I don't
know how else to get the message out there. My joke was with my husband because
Oprah Winfrey lives on Maui, and I thought, "Well, nobody's better at publicizing
books than Oprah Winfrey," because She's the one who basically started America Reading
again, I don't know, 30 years ago when she did Oprah's Book Club. And I thought,
well, she'd be a good person to publicize this book, but unfortunately, I don't know
her. So I gotta do it on my own and we're gonna start with this podcast and my
newsletter and we'll see where we go from there. If you have been enjoying this
podcast, I would so love you to, again, download or buy the e -book or the actual
book, it is available on paperback at the link on the website, on the link through
this podcast, or Amazon, BarnesandNovel .com. However you get your books,
it should be pretty easy to find. So what is the Overthinkers Guide to Joy
Handbook? What's different about that than this podcast? Well, a lot of it is the
same information, although you're getting it in 100 or so pages all in one place
and not spread over 100 + podcasts. It is basically the tricks and tools I use and
I recommend to all my clients to manage their anxiety and their stress and to put
themselves first so that they start practicing self -care and good daily habits so
that they feel better and less stressed in their lives. And it was really a lot of
different people who inspired this book because I had so many people who would
listen to this podcast and say, "I wish you would write a book. I wish it was
written down. I wish there was a place where I could review all of your tools and
your different tricks to managing anxiety. And sometimes I don't know where to go in
the podcast or which episode to listen to or which one that I loved that really
resonated with me. And they said, "Please, please write a book so that I could have
it at my fingertips and I could dog ear it or highlight it or put post -it notes
in it." So I want to thank those that reached out to me and said, "Write the
book." Because it was actually that that got me off my paralysis,
I don't know, fear, and there's a lot of it, and just started writing and writing
it down and organizing it and taking a course on how to write a nonfiction book
and it came together. So thank you for those who inspired and asked for it.
It is now here for you and in honor of you and I hope you love it.
So, and I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that I don't have a huge bucket list,
but this was at the top of it, accomplishing something that I wanted to do and
sort of facing my fears one step at a time and just doing it.
I can't tell you as scary as it is. And it is scary.
It's super scary to say you want to do something or think about something you want
to do, not know how to do it, tell people you're going to do it, hope that you
finish it, and then put it out to the world. Whether that's writing a poem,
a book, a song, dancing in front of people acting in front of people,
creating a piece of art, building something, it really doesn't matter what it is.
When you put your heart and soul into something and something that's meaningful to
you or something that matters to you, you are in a very vulnerable place.
And I just want to say for all of you who have ever dared to dream to do
something Big even if it's just big to you. I Just want to say I see you and I
hear you and I feel you Because it is scary to have a dream and it's scary to
take the steps forward towards that dream And it's scary to execute that dream and
then it's scary to make that dream public As I was waiting for the proof of this
book to come. There was a delay of like, I don't know, 10 days or something. It
took forever to get this book to my house. And unfortunately, for an overthinker,
thus the title, I had a lot of time to think about what this book meant to me.
And there was so much fear and anxiety bubbling up in it,
fear that it wouldn't be any good, fear that no one would read it, fear that
nobody would like it, fear that it would be too similar to something else, or too
basic, or too complicated, or not entertaining, or I don't know.
But I had this period where I was journaling like crazy, like what am I doing? How
did I get myself in this quagmire that I had this dream and now I'm about to
execute the dream and then the dream sort of has this I hate to say it it has
this exposure or this feeling of being exposed and what happens if it's not well
received or what happens if no one reads it or people read it and don't like it
or all the things I just listed. And facing that fear is part of why so many
people don't complete things or don't put things out there. And this is something I
deal with in my coaching practice all the time because I coach executives and
writers and producers and directors and actors and all kinds of people who have
dreams. And chances are the bigger the dream is, the scarier it is.
Whether that's running a marathon or being an ironman or producing something creative
or putting something out there for somebody to critique or like or purchase, those
are all really scary things. I think it's kind of why I wanted to do it.
They say you're supposed to do something that scares you a little every day. Well,
every day that I was writing this book was kind of scary. And today might be the
scariest day of all because I'm announcing it and I'm saying it's available. And it
might be 10 of my best friends who read it or they buy it and never read it or
they buy it and read it and never say anything. I don't know. But I will tell you
that I'm trying to sit in the moment of just being present in the doing as opposed
to the outcome. And I think that's probably the advice I would give to a client,
which is you can't be always attached to the outcome, particularly when it's a
creative endeavor. You need to be focused on why,
the why you're doing it. And for me, it was I always wanted a self -help book to
manage anxiety that was really easy to read. And so I created my own. It's kind of
that simple. And because these tools and tricks and habits have worked for me and
have so changed my life over the last decade or so, it felt wrong not to share
it. And so that's why I wrote the book, was to help maybe one other person feel
better or have a little bit of an operating manual of how to get out of a funk,
even if it's just a temporary funk. And look, this book is not rocket science,
it is not an anti -depressant, it is not a magic pill, it's just a book.
But it's a book that everything in it is true, and it is what I do, and it is
what I prescribe, and it is what I believe. And Based on my client's response to
the work I've done over the last five or so years, I think it works.
That's what I have for you today, the Overthinkers Guide to Joy, the book.
I would love for you guys to buy it, read it, tell me what you think,
and if you like it, leave me a review on whatever platform you listened or bought
or read it and then share it with a friend. That would be about all that I could
ever ask for. And with that I'm gonna wish you an awesome week and I look forward
to talking to you next time. Bye for now.
