Ever notice how one uncomfortable moment—whether it’s frustration, humiliation, or fear—can completely derail your energy? You feel stuck, paralyzed, unable to act.
But what if the way out is surprisingly simple? What if the key isn’t to fix the situation, but to change just ONE thought about it?
Here’s the thought that has saved me again and again:
This is temporary.
When we’re caught in discomfort, our minds play tricks on us. It whispers: “This is forever.”
That pain? Permanent.
That embarrassment? Eternal.
That anxiety? My new normal.
But it’s not true. Nothing is forever—not the weather, not your circumstances, not even your moods.
Everything changes.
Don’t believe me? Here’s a little test. Do you remember what you were upset about on this day last year? I don’t. Unless something significant happened, chances are you can’t recall either.
What about last month? As someone who’s kept journals for years, I’ve often gone back and read about the things that once consumed me:
Financial challenges.
Weight gain.
A difficult boss.
Falling out with a friend.
Heartbreak.
Those things felt massive at the time. Now? Most of them are just faded pages
So what’s bothering you right now? A person? A situation? A hard conversation you’re avoiding?
Once you identify the culprit,
-Write it down.
-Get honest about your thoughts and feelings.
-Then gently add, “This is only temporary.”
Notice what happens. Your body might release some tension. Your mind might feel a little clearer. Your next step might feel more doable.
This isn’t about ignoring problems. It’s about finding your way back to hope and movement. When you change your relationship to discomfort, you become free to take action again. You give yourself permission to have an attitude makeover—from anger to curiosity, from shame to detachment, from paralysis to motivation.
If you find yourself stuck in cycles of overthinking or worry, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to stay there. Coaching can help. Together, we can explore practical tools to help you navigate discomfort with greater peace and a deeper sense of control in your life.
