How Are You?

September 25, 2024

The other day, I was listening to a guided meditation, and the teacher asked,

“How are you?”

As a classic overthinker, my mind began to race.

“How AM I?”

Sometimes, a simple question can trigger a whole host of spiraling thoughts, especially for overthinkers.

But before I could go too far down that rabbit hole, she quickly reminded us not to judge, explain, or resist, but to simply observe our feelings.

And then, we started one of my favorite meditations: Metta or Loving-Kindness.

May I Be Happy
May I Be Healthy
May I Live With Ease

Metta or Loving-Kindess meditations are intended to cultivate love and compassion towards others, especially ourselves.

Sitting quietly and repeating these phrases aloud or in your mind can profoundly impact your well-being.

Once we feel a shift within, we can offer others that same love and compassion by simply changing just one word.

May YOU Be Happy
May YOU Be Healthy
May YOU Live With Ease

The words don’t have to be said exactly as written. They can be modified to whatever feels right for you.

If practicing self-love is challenging, try imagining a benefactor. It might be someone who loved you or was kind to you, even for a brief time. Imagine them bestowing this mantra upon you.

Happy Wednesday!
