“The shorter way to do many things is to only do one thing at a time.” – Mozart
I was reminded of the importance of focus the other day, while playing tennis with friends.
Every time my partner got a text on her Apple Watch, she either missed the next shot or double-faulted on her serve.
That tiny moment of distraction—that glance at her wrist or being annoyed by whatever message was coming through—threw off her timing by a split second.
It got me thinking. How often do we do this in other aspects of our life? How often do we let little distractions pull us away from what we should be focusing on?
I am a massive fan of getting more done in less time, and I took great pride in being a multitasker for most of my life.
Lately, however, I have started to question whether multitasking is serving me in the best possible way.
The research says NO.
Constantly switching between tasks increases stress, decreases efficiency, and makes us less present in our relationships.
So, what I once thought was a superpower may have been contributing to a lifetime of unnecessary overthinking and anxiety.
In this week’s episode of The Overthinker’s Guide to Joy podcast, I dive into the pitfalls of multitasking and the benefits of more focus and mindfulness.

If you’re overwhelmed by the constant need to do everything all at once, it might be time to try a different approach.
