For those of you who have known me for a long time, you know how much I have resisted my curly (frizzy) hair.
It has been a lifelong battle of blow drying, flat ironing, deep conditioning, Japanese straighteners, and Brazilian Blowouts.
Don’t even get me started on the amount of time and money wasted on “miracle” hair products.
At some point this past summer, between the heat, humidity, and frustration, my curly hair won the battle and I gave in… at least for now.
But today’s blog post is not about my struggles with frizzy hair.
It’s about Acceptance.
This is something I have been writing about for the last few weeks in regard to discomfort or pain.
Every one of us experiences discomfort in our life.
Sometimes it manifests as physical pain.
Sometimes it is psychological pain.
But when pain becomes cyclical or chronic, and we have taken all the medical precautions and remedies to address it, we need to examine the role our brain plays in it.
In its most basic terms, we need to look at mind over matter.
Or Radical Acceptance.
As one of my meditation teachers says,
“When we soften the grip around the way we think things need to be… we can allow things to be the way they are.”
Just this mental shift can open up the channels of possibility, problem-solving, and healing.
On today’s episode of “The OverThinker’s Guide To Joy,” I talk all about Radical Acceptance and the role it plays in healing. You can listen to it here or wherever you get your podcasts.
Happy Wednesday!
