Are You Happy?
It’s funny how such a simple question can be so triggering.
MY brain immediately starts over-analyzing this one.
Am I happy right at this moment? Today? Or in general?
Do I see the glass as ‘half-full or half-empty?’
And if I see the glass half-full, how often do I see it that way? Half the time? Some of the time? All the time?
I believe society has created a lot of pressure around “Being Happy.”
So many articles, songs, books, podcasts, newsletters, magazines, television, movies, and social media are all focused on Being Happy.
And yet, sometimes, even when we are blessed with so many good things, we still don’t feel happy… which can lead to more guilt and depression.
I cannot tell you how often I hear from clients, “I SHOULD be happier.”
In today’s podcast episode of The OverThinker’s Guide To Joy, I talk all about the pressure of being happy in today’s society. You can listen here or on Apple, Spotify, or YouTube.
The Pursuit of Happiness was not written into our Constitution to put another thing on your To-Do list. It was intended to be aspirational… not another obligation.
Happy Wednesday (or any other kind of Wednesday that you are feeling today)!
