What Are You Pursuing?

September 10, 2025

We’ve all been taught to chase the thing

The trophy. The promotion. The partner. The dream house.

We imagine that once we “get it,” then we’ll finally feel complete, secure, or successful.

But here’s the twist:  Getting the “thing” isn’t what keeps us alive inside.

I was listening to an interview with Mel Robbins the other day, and she was talking about the thing that gets us out of bed every day. It’s the pull of something you’re working toward. A project you’re shaping. A goal that feels just out of reach. A curiosity you’re following.

The destination might matter less than we think. Because once you “arrive,” the horizon just moves again.

What actually sustains us is motion. Growth. The Pursuit.

And maybe the point isn’t about finally holding the prize, but about who we become in the process of chasing it. The tiny wins along the way. The way it sharpens our resilience. The people we meet. The new parts of ourselves we discover.

It’s like the old saying goes, “Happiness is a journey, not a destination.”

For me, my current pursuit is breaking 100 in golf. It’s not just about the number on the scorecard. It’s about showing up, practicing, learning from mistakes, and celebrating the small improvements along the way. That’s what keeps me excited, day after day. (Although I still have to fight the urge to throw my clubs into the lake at least once a week.)

But instead of asking, “When will I get there?” maybe the more life-giving question is:

“What am I in pursuit of right now?”

If you’re ready to uncover the pursuits that energize you and make you jump out of bed in the morning, I’d love to help.

Book a free discovery call, and together we’ll explore what pursuit means for you and how to make the journey feel exciting.

Happy Wednesday!
