Be quick

What Are You Rushing?

October 18, 2025

We live in a world obsessed with speed. Go faster. Get ahead. Hack the system. Skip the scenic route and take the shortcut.

And honestly? I’ve lived most of my life this way.

I love efficiency. I love momentum. I love checking boxes and moving on. If there were a Fast Pass for life, I’d buy the annual membership.

The irony is that the more I try to rush, the more I slow myself down, and lately, I’m getting this lesson in stereo.

I’m about a year and a half into learning golf, and about two months into training a puppy. And in both situations, I have the same instinct: I need to conquer this!

But, I keep hearing the same reminder: “Slow it down.”

In golf, my teacher tells me, “Take your time setting up the shot. Don’t rush your backswing.”

In puppy training, the trainer says, “Slow down the steps. Be patient. Repetition matters.”

I want the results so badly that I skip the process that creates the results. I rush through the reps. I get bored with the basics. And that impatience ends up costing me progress. Because here’s the truth I keep bumping into:

Progress doesn’t always live in the push—it often lives in the pause.

It lives in the setup before the swing.

In the breath before the serve.

In the repetition of the drill you’ve done a thousand times.

We are often so focused on outcomes that we forget to give ourselves credit for showing up.

For practicing.

For sticking with it.

Consistency is progress.

Repetition is progress.

Patience is progress.

If you’re in a season where things feel slow… maybe you’re not stuck.

Maybe you’re just in the setup.

Maybe the slow part is the power building.

Maybe the scenic route makes you stronger.

If you feel you are not making progress in some area of your life, coaching is a great tool to help you put together a game plan while managing your mindset.
