When Things Don’t Go As Planned

March 5, 2025

I had big plans for a peaceful, grounded morning today.

I was going to meditate, sip my coffee slowly, and ease into the day before a podcast interview. But instead…

My puppy, Milo, had other ideas.

After breakfast, he ran around the house like a maniac—and proceeded to leave little “surprises” in the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

So instead of meditating, I was on my hands and knees with paper towels and cleaning spray.

Then I raced to get ready, jumped in the shower, and logged onto my Zoom interview with soaking wet hair—only to find my microphone wasn’t working. And then? My guest didn’t show up.

Flustered, I emailed her to see what was going on… and only then did I realize I had read my own calendar wrong.

The interview wasn’t at 8 AM. It was scheduled for 9 AM.

And here’s the kicker—all of this was preventable. I was rushing, distracted, and trying to do too much at once. The chaos wasn’t just happening to me—I was creating it.

But once I realized my mistake, I found something surprising: an extra 45 minutes in my morning—a chance for a do-over.

So I took it.

I sat quietly with Milo and did my meditation. I got centered. Then, I made myself a cup of coffee, grabbed a protein bar, and took a few deep breaths.

When I logged back in for the interview, I felt like a different person, and it turned out to be a really good one! (It will be available in a few weeks.)

A messy morning doesn’t have to mean a messy day.

And the lesson learned is that sometimes, slowing down is the thing that saves us from ourselves.

Happy Wednesday!
