The Overthinker's Guide to Joy with Jackie de Crinis | Are You Addicted to Guilt?

Ep #79: Are You Addicted to Guilt?

September 13, 2023

Self-help books have been something I’ve adored long before becoming a coach. A book I’ve been loving recently is Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza, where in one chapter he talks about guilt in a way I’ve never heard before. It resonated with me so deeply that I thought I’d discuss it with you on this episode.

There’s a propensity for women to carry excessive or irrational guilt, and it’s an emotion my female clients in particular tend to struggle with. In his book, Dr. Joe Dispenza likens the emotional habit of guilt to being addicted to drugs, alcohol, smoking, or junk food. If you’re a lifetime people pleaser, or often find yourself apologizing when things go wrong, it may be time to assess if you are addicted to guilt.

Join me this week to learn more about the emotional habit of guilt, and how you may have unwittingly created neuropathways to reinforce this emotion. You’ll hear what happens when guilt becomes a habit, why trying to change it can feel like going through a withdrawal, and my top suggestions for rewiring your brain.

If you want to learn more tips for managing your stress and your overthinking brain, I highly recommend signing up for my weekly newsletter here!
