I have a client who used to run marathons, but suffered a series of injuries. Now she’s in a place where she’s not only a little out of shape, but she actually finds the idea of even walking recreationally frustrating, humiliating, and defeating because she can’t run like she used to. This is all-or-nothing thinking, and she’s noticing it coming up in other facets of her life as well.
I also see this in my weight-loss clients. They’ll have a brownie or a glass of wine, and then just decide to forego their dietary goals for the entire day. Then a day turns into a week, then a month, before their goals fall by the wayside entirely. If these stories are starting to sound a little familiar, you too might be struggling with all-or-nothing thinking.
On the podcast today, we’re talking all-or-nothing thinking. I’m sharing a few of stories from my clients that are illustrative of this type of thought pattern, how it shows up, and I’m showing you how to change the narrative so you can enjoy yourself while maintaining the healthy habits that keep your overthinking brain at peace.
